London
Perhaps no other city in the world can approach the importance of London in terms of its financial contribution to the world of business. Most of the world’s hedge funds raise their monies in this city and many billionaires of the world also maintain official presence and private residence in London. The city can even be considered more metropolitan and diverse than either Tokyo or New York because close to 300 different languages are spoken here. Its population of between 12-14 million souls makes it a bustling centre of the arts, culture, trade, commerce, politics, education, entertainment and fashion. It is one of the few cities approved by the United Nations to be designated as a major global city. Its rise to prominence has been deeply rooted in history since its founding by the Romans two thousand years ago.

The success of London can be attributed to the river Thames which facilitated trade during its infancy and also made the place easy to defend and easier to evacuate in case of a determined attack. The Romans certainly found strategic military importance to its location when they started the first settlements there. Today, London has maintained its grip of being the premier city of England and the United Kingdom with its hosting the next Summer Olympics by year 2012. Its cultural and racial diversity seems to make the city burst at the seams with constant inflows from mostly Commonwealth countries and former British colonies. It is one of the most expensive cities to live in with unbelievable rents in spite of the housing slump. The demand is simply too high for houses within the city. London has been in the forefront of every major event in history such as the Renaissance and Industrial Revolution. It is inconceivable how a small nation can rule over an empire that the sun never sets in. The whole world probably owes much to the Londoners’ brave resistance during the Blitz. Although smaller now due to the loss of former colonies, the former maritime power was able to impose peace throughout the world known as “Pax Britannica” for most of the earlier centuries. There is a lot to see in London. Almost anything and everything you want to see in your lifetime can be found here. Just be sure to bring plenty of money when going around so you will not be stranded in this city.
